The swap is carried out by an independent exchanger and the deposit address above is theirs. loomprotocol.xyz never holds, receives or controls your funds, has no key to that address, and earns a referral commission. To understand why this happens, you need to know how blockchains process token transfers. When you send a token like USDC or ETH, the transaction does two things: it specifies the destination network (the chain), and it specifies a destination address (where on that chain it goes). The network routes the transaction correctly. The problem is what happens at the destination.
Every token on a blockchain is controlled by a smart contract. That contract keeps a ledger of who owns how many tokens. When you send tokens, you are actually telling the token's contract to deduct from your balance and credit the destination address. But the destination address must be one that the token contract can interact with. If you send to a random address - or worse, to the wrong token's contract address - the receiving contract has no logic to handle your token. It does not know you sent anything. The tokens are recorded as belonging to that contract address, but the contract itself cannot move them, return them, or acknowledge them. They sit there, technically owned by a piece of code that will never act.
A common scenario: you want to bridge USDC from Ethereum to Polygon. You find a USDC contract address on Polygon, but it is the old, deprecated USDC.e contract, not the native USDC. You send your tokens to that address. The transaction succeeds on the network. The Polygon block explorer shows the tokens arriving at the USDC.e contract. But that contract has no function to credit you. The tokens are gone.
Another scenario: you copy an address from a website or a chat, but it is for a different token entirely - say, a fake copycat token. The network accepts the transaction because the address is valid on that chain. Your real tokens land in the fake token's contract. The fake token's contract may or may not have a function to forward them. Typically it does not. You cannot recover them.
There is no undo button on a blockchain. No customer support can reverse a transaction. The network does not care what you intended; it only executes what you signed. If the destination address is a valid contract on that chain, the transaction is considered correct by the protocol.
The only exception: if you send to a contract that has a "sweep" or "rescue" function - and if you somehow control that contract - you might recover the tokens. This is rare. Most contracts do not have such functions, and you almost certainly do not control the wrong contract.
This is one of the reasons why swapping crypto across chains without a bridge or centralised account requires careful address verification. When you use the site's exchanger, it provides the exact contract addresses for the tokens involved. Do not guess. Do not copy addresses from random sources. Verify every character.
To avoid this loss entirely, always triple-check the destination address against the official contract address for the specific token on that specific chain. Use block explorers to confirm the token's verified contract. If you are unsure, do not send. A small delay is better than a permanent loss.
